About Schaeffer Bodyworks
My journey started at nine years old with my first horse, Amber. I spent my entire childhood in the barn with the horses. I just knew I’d spend my life caring for horses in one way or another.
Unfortunately, my teenage years brought some life changes that took me away from them until later in my adult life. I promised myself that when the time was right, I would indeed “work” with horses again.
Throughout my 20’s and 30’s, I had the chance be with horses again, but the opportunity for work didn’t come along until 2016. My son was about to graduate high school and decided he wanted to be an Engineer and attend a local University. This was it! This was my chance to “work” with horses as a means to help pay for his college! I started to research Equine Services that seemed to be lacking in my local area and found Bodyworks was a big one. I set out to find the best school possible to give me the foundation skills to start my business. I attended NE Indiana Equine Sports Massage and Therapy school. I finished as the valedictorian of my class and will forever be in debt to my instructor, Connie, for helping my lifelong dream begin to come true.
To say that I am obsessed with learning all I can about how preventative bodywork modalities can benefit horses and now dogs as well is an understatement! I’ve gone on to obtain 10 certifications with more to come. I’ll never stop learning!
My story isn’t quite complete without giving credit to a few very important horses and people that have inspired and supported so much of my education:
Buddy and Lena – for reminding me that my heart belongs in a barn.
Ollie – my senior aged, half blind, arthritic, laminitic Appaloosa gelding has inspired literally every certification I have in hopes of learning a little something to give him the best quality of life for the rest of it. Ollie has no idea how many other horses I’ve been able to help because of him!
My Momma Julie – for buying me big ponies my whole life, being the best show mom ever, and always supporting my big dreams.
My husband John, and son Chandler – for loving and supporting me through countless hours of studying and enduring the weekend hours getting the business up and running required. My loves, my rocks, thank you.
